STUDY PROGRAMMES
Student’s in Sixth Form chose subjects that fulfil a wider study programme, it is important that the students understand which study programme they will be part of and how that will impact the extra-curricular and wider curriculum offer the students will need to engage with. These study programmes are discussed in more detail during the student’s interview in term 3.
- Academic study programme is a range of pure A levels, typically three are chosen
- Mixed Academic and Vocational study programme is a mixture of A levels and vocational courses. For example many students choose to study the BTEC National Diploma in Engineering (Equivalent to 2 A levels) and A Level Product Design
- Vocational study programme is solely a range of vocational course, typically high in course work elements and only small externally examined topics
- Bridging Year or Access to Level 3 is a study programme delivered at both the SBL and Wellsway/IKB campuses. It is designed for students that do not achieve the entrance requirements but want to experience Sixth Form life and improve on their GCSE grades for one year, enabling them to access Sixth Form, collage or an apprenticeship a year later.
Study programmes are an important aspect to your sixth form education, the Futura Sixth Form is an inclusive sixth form and can provide opportunities for all abilities. We are particularly proud to be able to offer a bridging year study programme, this is specifically to support students that may have missed content and would like to spend an additional year improving their English, Maths and Science grades whilst embarking on a useful IT course for one year before accessing a two year A Level or Vocational study programme.
For the most able and academic students we are also proud to offer a Futures/Scholarship study programme that comes with additional timetabled support to ensure that you develop the skills and attributes to make sure you stand out in the crowd and are successful in applying to the most competitive courses at university, to include Oxford, Cambridge and Medical degrees, as well as degree apprenticeships.
